ASSISANT PROFESSOR OF THE ANCIENT/MEDIEVAL WORLD
The Department of History has an opening for an Assistant Professor of the Ancient/Medieval World beginning in August 2010. This is a tenure-track position, Ph.D. in appropriate field required. The successful candidate will be a historian who demonstrates a strong commitment and enthusiasm for student-centered undergraduate teaching at all levels and is able to teach a broad range of classes in both the ancient/classical world and the medieval world. The ideal candidate will support the educational mission of Benedictine College, a Catholic, Benedictine, residential, liberal arts institution In Atchison, KS, located within 1 hour of Kansas City. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN ENGINEERING
Benedictine College invites applicants for a full-time position in our new engineering program. The tenure-track position at Assistant or Associate Professor rank starts in the fall of 2010.
The Benedictine College Engineering Program, in its second year, offers its students the opportunity to pursue degrees in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering as well as Engineering Physics. The startup of the program is enhanced by BC’s innovative collaboration with the University of North Dakota’s ABET-accredited Distance Engineering Degree Program (UND-DEDP). Currently, the Benedictine College Engineering Program supports five-year dual-degree programs in which students receive degrees from both UND and BC while remaining on campus at BC. As the BC Engineering Program expands, more classes will be taught by faculty at BC, and fewer brought in through the UND DEDP program. The goal is to establish standalone BC degrees in all four of the major engineering disciplines.

The successful candidate must hold a M.S. or PhD in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Teaching and industrial experience are desirable.

NURSING INSTRUCTOR
Summary
The Faculty of the Benedictine Department of Nursing assists the course coordinators and Director in implementing the objectives of the nursing program to provide quality education in the Department of Nursing. They develop and implement the curriculum based on the program objectives with the end result to graduate BSN degree nurses with a current knowledge base to deliver quality patient care.
Responsibilities
Students
- Meets faculty responsibilities as described in the College’s and Department’s Faculty Handbooks
- Fulfills faculty workload requirements through excellence in teaching, course-related advisement and other activities.
- Participates in student-faculty activities that serve to strengthen student- faculty relationships.
- Participates in student advisement and academic counseling.
- Plans for clinical experiences for students during clinical rotations periods and participates in orientation of affiliating agencies.
- Supervises the clinical instruction of students.
- Evaluates theoretical and clinical components of students’ instruction.
- Informs the coordinator of progress or problems encountered in the area of instruction.
- Assists with maintaining necessary records and reports.
Department of Nursing
- Assumes responsibility for assigned units of instruction and for unit exams.
- Contributes to the ongoing development of the program through unit and course revision and refinement and the implementation of formative and summative evaluation processes.
- Provides input in the Department of Nursing budget.
- Participates in the selection and orientation of new faculty.
- Assists as faculty member in establishing and maintaining policies on selection, admission, promotion and graduation of students.

Education

- 1-2 years recent professional nursing experience.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS
Summary
The primary role of an Assistant Director of Admission is to help facilitate the successful enrollment of students to the undergraduate program. This is accomplished by monitoring all aspects of the enrollment process for students from assigned geographic regions. This includes the campus visit, the application for undergraduate admission, financial aid early estimate and Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and registration. To accomplish this goal we provide accurate and timely information for the student and their family to make an educated decision to attend Benedictine College.
Essential functions
Schedule and conduct high school visits at targeted high schools.
Attend local, regional and national college fairs.
Follow up with students regarding application status, upcoming events, financial aid, housing, testing and registering.
Support campus visit program.
Individual meetings with all campus guests from assigned territory.

Support large campus visit programs including Presidential Scholarship weekend, Raven days, Open House, and Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, NURSING PROGRAM
Summary:
Provide full range of administrative support for the nursing program. Will independently administer several assigned responsibilities, ensuring smooth office execution and excellent customer service. To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each primary responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and /or abilities required.
General Duties:
- Provides a full range of administrative, clerical and office support for the nursing program, including, but not limited to: Word processing and other computer program applications to enhance the nursing program efficiency.
- Manages the program calendar.
- Answers telephone and maintains telephone communications in a professional manner.
- Prepares and coordinates email, mail, faxes, and express packages.
- Generates and maintains files.
- Ensures confidentiality regarding issues related to the nursing program.
- Provides clerical/administrative support, including the composition and preparation of routine correspondence and presentations using computer software applications.
- Prepares and maintains telephone directory and other nursing program information.
- Performs photocopying and other program services.
- Communicates issues to the Nursing Director to ensure excellent customer service.
- Responsible for ordering supplies including office and also medical supplies for the clinical skills lab.
- Must be familiar with budgetary processes, managing purchase orders, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works under the general supervision of the Nursing Director. This position generally does not supervise other personnel except potentially for work-study students.
Requirements:
- Associate of Arts Degree or college coursework and appropriate work experience considered.
- 3 or more years of administrative experience preferred.
- Familiar with Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Internet applications, email and general office equipment (e.g., fax machine, e-copy, etc).
- Must be able to type 40-45 wpm and create graphs, tables, forms, charts and checklists.

EVENTS COORDINATOR
Summary:
The Events Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for the scheduling, planning, organization, and management of events that take place on the Benedictine College campus. Functions as the main college representative to internal and external groups who utilize any college facility for an event. Chairs the Event Management Committee to ensure college facilities are properly set-up and equipped for each event, the event is staffed accordingly, and monitors the logistics of these events.
The Events Coordinator should have a love for special events, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external customers. Must have excellent communication skills, attention to aesthetic detail, understanding of Benedictine hospitality, be able to multitask, think creatively, think on their feet, and troubleshoot problems.
The Events Coordinator must have the ability to visualize an event from start to finish including the steps that need to be taken to successfully accomplish the event. Must be able to anticipate event needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision. Responsible for coordinating the requests of internal and external groups utilizing College facilities including being physically present on campus before, during, and after events.

Men's Head Basketball Coach
Summary:
The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruiting, schedule, training, monitoring academic progress, promotions, fundraising and coaching team members. The Head Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Benedictine College, the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC), and the NAIA. Benedictine College is a member of the NAIA at the Division I level. This is a full time, twelve-month position.
Essential Functions:
- Directing all aspects of the coaching and management of the men's basketball program,
- Oversee assistant coaches and peripheral members of the program staff,
- Recruiting and scouting in accordance with the NAIA, HAAC and Benedictine College policies and procedures,
- Train and coach members of the program,
- Manage a year-round strength and conditioning program,
- Budget management, fundraising, and alumni development,
- Supporting the academic and personal development of all athletes,
- Visible, fully integrated member of the College community,
- Annually propose an effective and competitive schedule for approval by the Athletic Director,
- Recommend scholarship awards for student-athletes,
- Responsible for tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes, and for working collaboratively with the Faculty Athletic Representative in this regard,
- Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NAIA as it relates to the program,

MAINTENANCE AND GROUNDS SUPERVISOR
Summary:
The Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor is primarily responsible for the management of the Maintenance and Grounds Teams for the College Operations Department. Provides support to the Director of Operations and other employees of the Operations Department. Makes recommendations to the Director of Operations for a collaborative decision in the interviewing, selection, and determination of employee status for employees.
The Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor represents the College with external parties and vendors for day-to-day matters related to Maintenance and Grounds. Maintains the vendor database and oversees the work done by vendors and coordinates specific projects as assigned by the Director of Operations. Must be very savvy in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general construction trades as well as other facilities-related topics.
The Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor will plan, assign, and coordinate tasks using appropriate business and work techniques in order to ensure satisfactory completion of the overall departmental work load and to meet overall Operations Department goals and objectives. Performs quality checks to ensure staff is performing to the level necessary for the department to excel. Assists in the organization and maintenance of the Operations Department’s inventory.
The Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor accountabilities require him or her to ensure our campus facilities are ready and functioning at all on-campus events. Must be able to anticipate maintenance needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision. Must be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships employees, customers, and vendors. Must have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, be able to multitask, think creatively, and troubleshoot problems. Will spend 50-60% of the time in the office with the remaining 40-50% spent working out of the office on campus.
Education / Experience
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in a role that has required the candidate to demonstrate a proven ability to plan, organize, and direct a team of employees. The ideal candidate will have prior supervisory experience in an educational and residential setting working closely and collaboratively with the types of key constituent groups that thrive in our campus community: faculty, students, staff, and others. The candidate must be a self-starter, possess sound judgment and have very strong leadership, communication, critical thinking, and computer literacy skills.
