With the Center for Technology and Human Dignity, Benedictine College is promoting Catholic digital and bioethical ethics to meet the challenge of Leo XIV to use and develop technologies in ways that serve the human person. The St. Carlo Acutis Fellows will give students the tools needed to be leaders in ensuring that emerging technologies serve the human person and not the other way around.
Program Highlights
- Distinguished Speaker Series: Fellows have priority access to on-campus lectures and workshops and are invited to network with worldclass scholars.
- Seminar: Freshman fellows take part in a 1-credit discussion-format course during their first two fall semesters on campus. The topics include technology ethics, theological anthropology, Catholic social teaching, and the human vocation.
- Service Projects:
- Sophomore fellows offer class sessions on data and biomedical ethics to local schools such as St. Benedict’s Catholic School
- All fellows have the opportunity to assist non-profits with integrating trainings, technology-integration strategy, and virtuous technology use
- Outreach: Junior and senior fellows organize and take part in special presentations to students and professionals in Kansas City on data ethics and a vision of technology development that encompasses commitments to justice, charity, and human dignity.
- Extracurricular Education:
- Fellows participate in reading groups and discussions of case studies to build skills of ethical analysis.
- Fellows receive further formative experiences in surrounding communities to learn about new developments and best practices in various contexts, such as business and health care.

- Leadership Formation: Fellows learn important theoretical foundations and develop interpersonal skills for serving as leaders in responsible applications of technologies in their respective fields, future careers, and vocations.
- Mentorship: Students are connected with scholars and practitioners in their fields of interest who think critically about technology use and how to respond to new innovations in such a way that is compatible with Catholic teachings on the person, the value of work, and the mission of the family.
- Transforming Culture Project: Students can apply for a $2,000 stipend toward an internship in bioethics or technology ethics, or toward researching current or anticipated technology applications in a particular setting and their impacts on society. Students can write an article or develop curriculum that helps educate on the implications of this technology. For the purpose of contributing to broader education for our communities, students will have the opportunity to share their findings and insights from their projects more broadly through digital content and articles published by Benedictine Media.
Eligibility
Admitted students who fall into one of these categories may apply:
- Standard: Students with a minimum 3.2 high-school GPA and minimum 27 ACT, 1260 SAT, or 87 CLT test score.
- Test-Optional: Test-optional applicants with a minimum 3.2 high-school GPA.
- Sliding Scale: Students whose individual combination of GPA and test score merits our consideration based on a sliding scale.
