Master of Arts in School Leadership

Research indicates that school leaders are second only to teachers in impacting student growth and achievement.  Our MASL program is designed for full-time working educators who want to build the skillset and broad perspective to effectively build a community of learners.  Candidates for this degree complete a 33 credit hour degree program or may complete a 21 credit hour licensure program if the candidate has already earned a master’s degree in education.

Our flexible cohort program is designed for busy working teachers.  The cohort program begins each fall in alternating locations (Atchison or the Kansas City area in Roeland Park) and follows a two-year progression.  Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission has been granted for the awarding of the Master of Arts in School Leadership and approval for a graduate program leading to endorsement in Pre K-12 Building Leadership has been granted by the Kansas State Board of Education and accredited by NCATE (now CAEP). The state-approved licensure program is included within the degree program.  A specific cohort has been designed for Catholic school leaders, which incorporates Catholic doctrine and formation.

The program includes four practicum experiences aligned to both ISLLC and KSDE standards to facilitate application of administrative knowledge and skills.  Practicum experiences are designed with collaboration between the director of the program, the candidate, and administrator of the proposed practicum location.
