Freedom Summer

Participants in the Freedom Summer program

Middle School Program hosted by the Center for Human Flourishing

Summer 2027 Dates TBD

Freedom Summer is a four-week program for middle school students from the Atchison, Kansas community. The program supports youth in the community by engaging them academically, socially, and in personal development. The program’s purpose is to challenge students, immerse them in diverse ways of thinking and problem-solving, and help them develop healthy habits. Our goal is to help students flourish by equipping them with valuable life skills, offering real-world opportunities, and providing lasting mentorship.

Freedom Summer is primarily staffed by current Raven students who serve as interns for the summer program. The student intern position for Freedom Summer is twofold: during the day, interns teach and support students in the program; in the evenings, they engage with a reading list and a discussion group with staff from the Center for Human Flourishing.
