Florence Program - Summer

Live and study in Tuscany during the summer—Benedictine College students can now study in the college's Florence campus in the summer. This opportunity is first-rate for students who are not able to study abroad during the fall or spring semester or who want to have an exceptional summer filled with the mind-expanding experiences, culture, and fun.

Live

  • Spend 6 weeks of summer living in beautiful Villa Morghen

Study

  • Learn the Italian language and fulfill your Benedictine College language requirements
  • Study Italian art and history from the cradle of the Italian Renaissance
  • Gain 9 credit hours without spending a semester away from school
  • Travel in Italy and to other European countries

Explore

  • The program includes guided visits in Florence, as well as to Assisi, where St. Francis and St. Claire lived; Perugia, a city filled with Etruscan history; Siena, Rome, and Venice.

Courses Offered

  • ITAL-1000 Beginning Italian I (4 cr.); fulfills BC’s foreign language requirement
  • ITAL-1020 Beginning Italian II (4 cr.); fulfills BC’s foreign language requirement
  • GNST-3000 International Study Reflection and Practicum (1 cr.)

Program Costs

  • $400 non-refundable application fee
  • $5,110 program fee
  • Total: $5,510

The cost does not include the following.

  • Airfare - Cost depends on the airline and varies over time.
  • Platinum iNext Card – Students pay $90 for the Travel Medical Insurance coverage. The $90 will be charged to the student account.  
  • Laundry - Washing: € 3.5 per load. Drying: €2.5 per load.
  • Telephone - Consider buying an international plan, or a local SIM card.
  • Four meals on weekends - Saturday and Sunday lunch and dinner are not covered by the meal plan at Villa Morghen.
  • Local transportation - when not on site visit with class. Cost of local transportation is €1.50 for 90 minute bus ticket. Monthly bus passes in Florence cost €35.
  • Personal expenses - The total amount of money for personal expenses largely depends on the lifestyle you choose. Consider if you plan to travel before or after the program or during weekends, buy souvenirs for family and friends, and spend on meals and entertainment during the week/weekend.
