Brass/Percussion Recommended Material

  • Scales

  • All brass students should  meet or exceed a basic major scale exam of up to 4 flats or 4 sharps and a chromatic scale of one octave. Percussion students would perform the 7 Essential Snare Drum Rudiments in open-close-open format.

  • Sightreading. All brass students must meet or exceed a minimum sight reading score of 50 on the Watkins/Farnum Sight reading Battery

  • Literature. All students will perform a piece of a similar standard to the following:


Trumpet

Trombone

French Horn

Baritone and Euphonium

Tuba

Percussion

Perform a grade 3 snare drum solo encompassing rudimental-style technique. Examples include Brook: Mozambique (Rowloff), Spears: Bayport Sketch (C.L. Barnhouse) A grade 2-3 mallet solo could also be used.
