When Durell Anthony steps to the mic, you know you are in for a treat. He has a special voice and a distinct style. They knew that at Benedictine College during his days as a student. They knew it when he fronted bands in southern California. And now, the world knows it thanks to his nationally televised audition for NBC’s “The Voice.”

Durell performed on campus and in the area regularly as a student and was even a featured singer at two of the college’s signature Scholarship Ball events. He graduated in 2008 with a degree in sociology and his involvement on campus, his talent and his willingness to share it were recognized at commencement with the Fran Jabara Leadership Award that year.

With his new degree and his love of working with children, his initial path after graduation was to go into counseling and teaching, but he always knew he wanted to sing. He moved to California in 2010 for a summer job and while he was in San Diego, he joined the Black Belt Jones Band. That led to his re-immersion into music. He is currently the lead singer for The Mighty Untouchables, a Top 40 cover band. He has performed as a back-up singer to a number of music industry names, and he has released some original music as well, including the singles “Dreams” in 2018 and “Speechless” in 2020.

This year, Durell moved to the national stage with an on-air audition on NBC’s “The Voice.” He impressed the judges with his own take on Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” and both Kelly Clarkson and John Legend recruited him for their teams. Since one of Durell’s musical idols and key influences is Legend, he joined Team Legend and will be coached by his idol. Durell will now appear during the 2021 season of competition.
