Atchison, Kan. (Sept. 10, 2018) – For more than 10 years now, Benedictine College has been named to the top tier of colleges and universities in “America’s Best Colleges,” published by U.S. News Media Group.  U.S. News lists 91 colleges in the Midwest Division of the Best Regional Colleges category, and Benedictine is listed in the Top 20 in the region, landing at #13, the highest ranked Catholic college in the division. Benedictine is ranked in the Top 5 for undergraduate teaching and is also listed as a Best Value school in the Midwest. The complete rankings are available online at www.usnews.com/colleges.

The annual rankings – in which U.S. News groups schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching – provide a resource for parents and students considering higher education opportunities. Using a proprietary methodology, the annual U.S. News rankings represent the most comprehensive look at how schools stack up based on a set of 15 widely-accepted indicators of excellence, and help consumers evaluate and compare data compiled from more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools.

“We are pleased to again be named one of America’s best colleges by U.S. News & World Report,” said Stephen D. Minnis, president of Benedictine College. “It is another indication of our commitment to excellence in all things. We are an All-Steinway School, one of The Newman Guide’s Top 20 Catholic colleges, and a Best Value school. We have a leading Great Books program, a top Nursing Program, a nationally recommended Accounting Program, and our commitment to STEM education is evident with our new observatory and state-of-the-art science and engineering building. Our vibrant faith life, exemplary student life programs, and our national rankings in athletics all point to Benedictine College becoming one of the great Catholic colleges in America.”

Work continues at Benedictine College on the renovation and expansion of Westerman Hall, the science and engineering building. The $24 million project is the largest in the school’s history and adds 40,000 square feet to the existing 60,000. Upon completion in spring 2019, the new building will be the finest science and engineering facility of any small college in America, allowing Benedictine to continue growing in the sciences, engineering and architecture. Benedictine College has nearly doubled in enrollment in the past 10 years and is now the largest private college in Kansas according to the Kansas Independent Colleges Association.
