FOCUS Founder to Deliver 2018 Commencement Address

Curtis Marting - 2018 Commencement SpeakerBenedictine College has announced that Curtis Martin, the founder and CEO of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS), will give the keynote address for the 2018 Commencement Exercises, set for May 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium on the college campus. The year marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of FOCUS, a Catholic outreach organization which began in 1998 with two missionaries on the campus of Benedictine College.

 

Martin earned an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and a Master’s Degree in Theology from Franciscan University. In addition to his duties with FOCUS, he serves as the vice chairman of the Augustine Institute, a Catholic graduate school in Denver. He is the author of the best-selling book, Made for More, and is the co-author of The Real Story: Understanding the Big Picture of the Bible with Dr. Edward Sri and Boys to Men: The Transforming Power of Virtue with Dr. Tim Gray.

 

A dynamic speaker, Martin is known for using humor, storytelling and his own life experiences to communicate how faith in God is lived out in everyday life. In addition to regular speaking engagements, he serves as a co-host of EWTN’s “Crossing the Goal” and is a frequent guest on the “Catholic Answers” radio program. 

 

In 2004, Pope Saint John Paul II awarded the Benemerenti Medal to him and his wife, Michaelann, for their outstanding service to the Church. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him as a Consultor to the Pontifical Council of the New Evangelization.

 

Curtis and Michaelann live in Westminster, Colorado, and have nine children, three of whom have already graduated from Benedictine College. A fourth child, MariAnna, will be a member of the Class of 2018 and will hear her father’s address as her commencement keynote.
