Benedictine College announced today that David Trotter, director for mission and ministry, has been selected to serve the Catholic Church in a new role, which will start at the end of this school year.

Trotter will leave his position at Benedictine College to serve in a dynamic new program at FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students), which will work with FOCUS alumni and parishes nationwide.

“We are sad to see Dave go, but this is an exciting opportunity for him and for the Church,” said Benedictine College President Stephen D. Minnis. “We are extremely grateful for the great things he has accomplished here at Benedictine College.”

Trotter was hired at the college before the 2013-2014 school year and tremendously expanded the Ministry program.

  • Under his leadership, Benedictine College ministry consistently expanded its mission program and this year alone sent 282 students to service opportunities on five continents in 13 different countries.
  • Trotter led the establishment of Benedictine College Youth Outreach, with its Immersion and Encounter summer camps, bringing high school students to campus to experience the Benedictine experience of community, faith and scholarship.
  • Trotter founded the yearly Symposium for the Advancement of the New Evangelization on campus, bringing Catholic leaders to campus to explore new ways to share Christ’s message in modern society.
  • With Trotter’s guidance, students in Mission and Ministry have been given opportunities to participate in conferences, internships and leadership opportunities nationwide.

Other accomplishments by Trotter at Benedictine College include the completion of two new chapels, the addition of a Christ the King Eucharistic Procession to ministry’s yearly schedule and overseeing an RCIA program that brought dozens of people into the Church.

About Benedictine College

Founded in 1858, Benedictine College is a Catholic, Benedictine, residential, liberal arts college located on the bluffs above the Missouri River in Atchison, Kansas.  The school is proud to have been named one of America’s Best Colleges by U.S. News & World Report as well as one of the top Catholic colleges in the nation by First Things magazine and the Newman Guide.  It prides itself on outstanding academics, extraordinary faith life, strong athletic programs, and an exceptional sense of community and belonging.  It has a mission to educate men and women within a community of faith and scholarship.

FOCUS is a Catholic collegiate outreach whose mission is to share the hope and joy of the gospel to college and university students. Trained in Church teaching, prayer, sacred Scripture, evangelization and discipleship, FOCUS missionaries encounter students in friendship where they are, inviting them into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and accompanying them as they pursue lives of virtue and excellence. Through Bible studies, outreach events, mission trips and one-on-one discipleship, missionaries inspire and build up students in the faith, sending them out to spread the good news and to live out the Great Commission: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:19).
