General Guidelines in Case of Power Failure

In the event of power failure due to ice damage or other circumstances, here are a few guidelines to remember:

  • In the event of power failure, stay away from downed power lines.
  • Key cards will not work if the power is out, so you will have to work with RAs or security officers to gain access.
  • If the power is out, many buildings will be closed due to the inability to operate the electronic key card entry.
  • Remember, if the power is out, there will be no lights and no hot water.
  • Be prepared with flashlights and fresh batteries for light in the residence halls. And it is always good to have a battery-powered radio.
  • To conserve heat in the residence halls while the power is out, stay inside and keep the doors closed.

Keep in mind that the Dining Hall will continue operation, even if they can only serve sandwiches. Generators have been rented to supply light inside the Dining Hall if the power is out.
