Rosario AndinoWorld-renowned Cuban pianist Rosario Andino will present a piano recital on the stage in O'Malley-McAllister Auditorium on the Benedictine College campus in Atchison, Kan., on Sunday, September 25, at 2:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Kremmeter Series and the Benedictine College Music Department in conjunction with the college’s designation last year as an All-Steinway School. The recital will be performed on the Steinway “D” Concert Grand piano and is free and open to the public.

Andino was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, where she began her musical studies at age four. She graduated with highest honors from the Firschermann Conservatory in Havana and later from the Chatham Square Music School in New York City. She is an alumna - summa cum laude - of the St. George's School (Havana) and of Hunter College (New York City).

She has won the coveted Music Critics Circle Prize in Cuba as well as the Pittsburgh Society of Musical Arts Prize in the USA. She tours Europe, Mexico, and the USA annually and has recorded for many television and radio stations around the world. Her concerto repertoire includes many of the standard works for piano and orchestra as well as such rarities as works by Arensky. Her solo repertoire is formidable and includes all of the major and some of the lesser-known works from the baroque, classical, romantic and modern eras as well as works by Cuban, South American and Spanish composers.

Some contemporary composers have written and dedicated works to her. In 1991, the Missouri Arts Council selected her for their Touring Program roster. Her concerts under their auspices have been so successful that in 1994 the Council nominated her to the Mid-America Arts Alliance Foundation and she was selected to be on their roster as the only pianist.
