'09 Grad Earns Benedictine Young Alumni Award

Dr. Melinda Pregont Addresses Seniors

Monday, May 18, 2015

Benedictine College presented Dr. Melinda (Morrison) Pregont, DC, with the 2015 Young Alumni Award during the annual Senior Brunch on May 15. The college initiated the award in 2007 to recognize alumni who are under 35 years old, have distinguished themselves in their community and profession, and who support the values promoted at Benedictine College. Each year the honoree returns to address the graduating seniors the day before Commencement.

“Graduates, please recognize that people will come and go in your life,” she told the gathered seniors. “You’ll make choices for the wrong reasons. You’ll be prideful, egotistical. You’ll be ridiculed, criticized, praised and given fancy awards. One of these days, you will have an identity crisis. I can almost guarantee it. And you’ll have to find yourself again. I encourage you graduates and want you to know the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

Pregont earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Benedictine College in 2009. She went on to graduate magna cum laude from the Cleveland Chiropractic College – Kansas City, with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2012. Raised in Highland, Kan., Pregont moved to Atchison during her high school years where she graduated from Maur Hill-Mount Academy.  Being a lifelong athlete, she played a combined eight years of basketball for both Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Benedictine College and was a part of two NAIA National Championship tournament teams for the Lady Ravens. Her background in athletics is what got her interested in the chiropractic field.

She returned to Atchison with her husband, Justin Pregont ’09, (Director of Public Works for the City of Atchison) and founded Trusted Care Chiropractic in 2013. She is trained in chiropractic, acupuncture, Graston soft tissue therapy, and Kenisio taping and is focused on wellness care rather than sickness care. Her business has grown to the extent that she now operates two offices, one in Atchison and one in Hiawatha, Kan.
