Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Ray Acosta, president and general manager of the Wu Tang Corporation / Wu Music Group, is an accomplished business executive who possesses strong creative, leadership, and communication skills. He will speak to students on Monday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the McAllister Board Room on the fourth floor of the Ferrell Academic Center.  His talk, sponsored by The Department of Modern and Foreign Languages, will be about "Life after College."   All are welcome to attend.

A native of the Washington Heights area of New York City, Acosta earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master’s Degree in design and marketing from the New York Institute of Technology.  He co-founded the influential marketing and design firm, Designey, Inc. and went on to work with major clients like Sony, Epic, Disney, A&E, Sprite, Champion and Adidas.  He promoted Latin hip-hop and was the first to bridge the gap between corporate America and Latin music labels.  With more than 15 years of experience, he has become an expert in building and revitalizing a company’s organizational infrastructure, services/products, technologies, processes, measurement systems, and sales/marketing strategies.  Currently, he is developing a television mini-series and is an associate producer for the independent film, Peter Jackknife: The Tale of Pedro Navaja.

Acosta is also an aspiring humanitarian and peace ambassador in his community, having served as liaison between rival Latino and African-American gangs to lessen and ultimately stop gang violence.  He is co-founder of the United AIDS Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money for the research of medicine to help find a cure for AIDS.  He splits his time between his Los Angeles and New York City offices.
