Benedictine Production of Big River Opens at Theatre Atchison

The Benedictine College Department of Theatre and Dance, in conjunction with Theatre Atchison, is pleased to bring an adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic story of Huck Finn and life on the Mississippi River to the stage.  The musical production Big River - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, opens at 8:00 p.m. Friday night, April 4, at Theatre Atchison, 401 Santa Fe Street (the corner of Fourth St. and Santa Fe). 

Tickets are available by calling 913-367-7469 or visiting the Theatre Atchison Box Office, located at 401 Santa Fe. The Box Office is open Tuesday - Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door.  The show runs two consecutive weekends with performances April 4, 5 and 6 and April 11, 12 and 13.  Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Directed by Theatre and Dance Department chair Scott Cox, the show is based on Mark Twain’s famous tale and features Tony Award-winning music by Roger Miller. It is the story of a boy growing up in pre-Civil War Missouri, living near the banks of the Mississippi River, and his adventures as he sets out to 'just be a fella.'

The production features Von Huber as Huckleberry Finn, Dr. Edward Mulholland as Pap Finn, Theresa Kelly as Miss Watson, Sarah Smeltzer as Mary Jane, Rosemary Herold as the King, and Teresa Moore as the Duke.  Benedictine students in the chorus are Mary Dygert, Courtney Crilley, Peter Olson, Diane Gorrell, Carolyn Warnke, Danielle Shanahan, Molly Blaeser​, Kaihtlyn Schlachter, Will Allen, Claire Sorteberg, Allison Buell and Sean McGuire.
