One Year Visiting Instructor - Design/Technical Theatre

Benedictine College Department of Theatre and Dance is currently accepting applications for a Designer/Technical Director in a full time visiting instructor position for the 2021-2022 academic year. The successful candidate will teach design and technology courses and will be responsible for implementation of all department theatre productions as related to scenery, lights, sound and props.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is a BA program with a student-centric approach aimed at providing opportunities to develop student skills and talents across all areas of theatre. Each academic year the Department produces four mainstage productions, a set of student directed one acts, and a variety of student projects. The department consists of two full-time faculty members, one part time faculty member and two adjuncts.

Essential Functions

  • Teach Stagecraft, Scenic Design, Production Arts courses and possibly a general education theatre course.
  • Serve as Department Technical Director and Scene Shop supervisor.
  • Design scenery for a minimum of one main stage production and supervise student designers in the areas of scenery, lighting, sound and props.
  • Duties also include budgeting and purchasing in the technical areas for all theatre productions.

Requirements

  • M.F.A. in Design is preferred, M.A. with design and technical direction experience considered.
  • Must have experience in set construction. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the related areas of lighting and sound.
