Counselor

Position Summary

Provide counseling services to students and groups of students within the Benedictine College Counseling Center.

Essential Functions

  • Administer counseling services in accord with Catholic moral principles, Benedictine College principles and policies, licensing and professional standards and ethics, and governmental regulations including HIPAA, FERPA, and Title IX.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with counseling services for students.
  • Provide mental health counseling, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and consultations for students, including in crisis/emergency situations.
  • Coordinate and/or collaborate with others on offering regular programs of student and staff education and training on wellness topics including mental health, alcohol and other drug prevention, and other topics of interest.
  • Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with Residence Life, Student Success Center, Nursing, Athletics, local health providers and resources, other college departments, and the college administration.

  • Strong experience in crisis intervention and risk-assessments.
  • Ability to create and conduct presentations for staff and students
  • Ability to provide consultation to faculty, staff, and others on matters relating to student problems
  • Ability to manage crisis and conflict situations.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills as well as proven administrative and organizational skills
  • Computer skills including word processing, e-mail and database software

Education

Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, social work or related field with current licensure

Experience

Minimum of two years of counseling experience, preferably in a college setting
