Mission Trip: Suriname

Doing crafts in Suriname

Located on the northeastern side, Suriname is the smallest country in South America. Rainforest makes up most of this country, and half of the population lives in the capital city of Paramaribo. Our trip will join the Servants of the Lord and Virgin of Matará (commonly known as the Servidoras), an international religious community of lively, joyful, and spirit-filled sisters who share the Gospel through apostolates including teaching, youth ministry, nursing, and the corporal works of mercy. The sisters in Suriname work in parishes, teaching catechesis and leading youth groups, as well as visiting and taking care of the sick, disabled, and elderly. The sisters have expressed a need for young people to come and share their faith with the youth of Suriname. We will be working to engage the young people with Bible Studies, service work, and friendship, as well as caring for the sick (nursing students not required) and being a support to the Servidoras in their established, long-term missions.
