Message on March 3 Regarding Novel Coronavirus (COVID-29) | Benedictine College

Message Regarding Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Situation - Mar. 3

Sent to Benedictine College students, faculty and staff on March 3, 2020.

Due to the coronavirus situation in Italy, Benedictine College has made the difficult decision to close the Florence campus for the semester. The students remaining in Italy will have to leave by March 6. It is unfortunate, but the increased U.S. State Department advisory level (Level 3) and the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control created a greater concern that the longer we stayed, the more likely we would not be able to get our students out of Italy in an orderly fashion. Other nations are becoming nervous and borders may soon close. Airlines are cutting the number of flights to Italy. Other colleges are closing their programs in Italy and asking their students to return to the United States. We feel this is truly the best course of action for the well-being of our students.

Also - we have reminded all returning students (both those who have already returned and those who will be returning) that they are required to stay away from campus for 14 days. They will complete their academics through distance learning.
