Women Lost to History

Oral Presentation
10:15-10:35 a.m. CDT on April 14, 2021

All throughout history women have been silenced, hidden, and pushed aside. No matter how important, inspiring, or intelligent they were, their voices have been quieted and their stories covered by a man who did less. How can we integrate women into a narrative of American History that is dominated by men? The way that I have chosen to do this is by giving a brief history of three important women who have been buried by history and write and perform monologues from their perspective. I have chosen to focus on three very inspiring women: Hedy Lamarr, Sybil Ludington, and Victoria Woodhull. My goal is to inform my audience of these women and their incredible lives as well as give those listening a reason to think. I have created these monologues and this presentation based on research I have done on their lives. My sources include many secondary sources but also a number of good number of primary sources, such as interviews with Hedy Lamarr featured in the documentary Bombshell, and Victoria Woodhull’s writings from her newspaper, Woodhull and Chlafin’s Weekly.
