Return to Service-Learning Newsletters

Service-Learning Newsletter | December 14, 2017

Dear Friends,

I think it is fitting that we release our first Center for Service-Learning newsletter between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am deeply grateful for my role as Coordinator of Service-Learning: since starting at Benedictine last year, I have witnessed the creativity, enthusiasm, and generosity of faculty as we develop ways to challenge students through connecting them to the community beyond our campus. I have met Atchison residents whose passion for this city is contagious and who are eager to work with Ravens to make it an even better place to live. I have learned of students who have entered into mutually transformative encounters that have an impact on the lives of others, as well as their own academic, personal, and spiritual development.

Yes, nothing short of gratitude for this work! Yet in a community as active as ours, I see the need to be more intentional about sharing these thought-provoking and exciting service-learning experiences that I hear about every day. So now, as we draw near to Christmas, I have the joy of giving you this newsletter and, through it, granting a glimpse of the service-learning that has been happening these past two years. Future editions, which will be released quarterly, will keep you up-to-date with happenings and developments in this area. Thank you for taking the time to read. I hope you enjoy, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, ideas, or thoughts about service-learning!
