Wainwright Adds Six More to Wrestling Recruiting Class

Head wrestling coach Cy Wainwright has announced the signing of six more athletes to his inaugural recruiting class.


The class of six is highlighted by multiple state qualifiers and state placers.


“I believe this class has all of the qualities that we are looking for to put the Benedictine College wrestling program in the right direction,” Wainwright said.


Isaac Cairo – An Iowa Lakes Community College transfer and Horton native. Isaac was a two time Kansas High School State Qualifier at Horton High School for Coach Doug Speers.


“Isaac is an individual who can be a leader on this team with his prior college wrestling experience,” said Wainwright. 


Isaac is a projected 133 pounder for the Ravens.


Jacob LaRue – Jacob is transferring in from Kansas University. Jacob wrestled at Chanute High School for Coach Andy Albright.


“Jacob has tremendous character and work ethic. I expected him to do great thing during his time at Benedictine College,” said Wainwright.


Jacob is a projected 285 pounder for the Ravens


Eddy Gomez –  A native of Garden City, Eddy was a Kansas State Qualifier in 2010. He not only brings his wrestling ability to Benedictine but Academics as well boasting a 3.96 cumulative GPA.


“Eddy has the right mix of work ethic and determination both on and off the mat,” said Wainwright.


Eddy is a projected 149/157 pounder for the Ravens.


Michael Forbes – A native of Effingham, Michael was a Regional Runner up and State Qualifier last season for Coach Flores at ACCHS.


“Michael comes from a great program that is rich in wrestling, I expect him to step right in ready to compete,” said Wainwright.


Michael is a projected 141/149 pounder for the Ravens.


Andrew McKay – A native Green Cove Springs, Fla., Andrew was a State Placer from Clay High School where he wrestled for Coach Jim Reape.


“Andrew has the ability to compete in right away. He has a fantastic work ethic, which will help him compete right away,” said Wainwright. Andrew is a projected 184/197 pounder.


Andrew Severson –A Memphis, Tenn., native, Andrew wrestled at St Benedict’s High School for Coach Jim Kurtz. Andrew was a 3-time State Placer with two runner up finishes, along with placing fourth at the prestigious Super 32.


“Andrew has the ability to make an impact in college wrestling immediately. With his wrestling background and work ethic I see great things for him,” said Wainwright.


Andrew is a projected 285 pounder for the Ravens.


Dustin Vielhauer – Dustin is a Shawnee native where he wrestled at St James Academy for Coach Mike Medina. During his time at St James he helped build that program to its current prominence in the state of Kansas by qualifying for state twice.


“Dustin is a wrestler that has tons of potential, he is fairly new to the sport and has tons of growth and development still to do. I am excited he has made BC his home," said Wainwright.


Dustin is a projected 133/141 pounder.
