Benedictine head wrestling coach Cy Wainwright added two more athletes for inaugural season of Raven wrestling in 2012-12 on Thursday.
Fulton, Mo., native Zack McClure (pictured top right) and Bluestem native Augustin Schmidt (bottom right) signed their national letters of intent to join the Ravens next season.
McClure has been a four year varsity starter at Fulton High School. So far he has become a three-time state qualifier and two-time state placer.
Not only does Zack excel athletically but academically as well, boasting a 3.8 cumulative GPA.
“I believe that Zack has all of the qualities that we are looking for to build the BC wrestling program," said Coach Wainwright. "He has a great mix of academics, talent and the right attitude to help make the Ravens competitive.”
"Auggie" is a two-sport stand out in both football and wrestling at Bluestem High School and is coached by Kyle Madden and Kelly Benton.
He was a 2011 KSHSAA State Qualifier with a 37-12 record and Coach Wainwright is projecting him to wrestle at 197 pounds for the Ravens .
“Auggie is an all-around great individual," said Coach Wainwright. "His success so far is an example of his great character. I look forward for him to bring the same to the Benedictine Wrestling program.”
The initial class of Ravens are competing in open meets this season but are wrestling unattached from Benedictine as to keep their eligibility in place to help build the program when it begins competing as an intercollegiate program next school year.
