Seven Raven Women's Soccer Players Land on All-Conference

Benedictine gets two first-teamers, three second-teamers and two third-teamers

With the end of the regular season coming on Wednesday for the Heart of America Athletic Conference, Thursday brought the announcement of the 2011 All-Conference team as the coaches gathered at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., to select the team.

Seven members of the Raven women's soccer team, who finished in sixth place this season and qualified for the conference tournament, were named to the three levels of the all-conference team.

Forward Ashley Washurn (Soph., Overand Park) and defender Courtney Danze (Sr., Kansas City, Mo.) were named to the first team. Forward Erin O'Brien (Jr., Overland Park), midfielder Melanie Petersen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and defender JoEllen Keyser (Sr., Thorton, Colo.) were named to the second team. Forward Cassie Trandahl (Fr., Lindstrom, Minn.) and keeper Carissa Gregory (Sr., Gretna, Nab.) were named to the third team.

Washburn finished the regular season as the Ravens leading scorer with 14 goals. Danze was part of a solid back row of defense and started all 18 games at defender.

O'Brien was the Ravens third-leading scorer through the end of the regular season with six goals but was the team leader in shots with 94 and shots on goal with 40. Petersen controlled the midfield, starting all 18 games in the regular season. She tallied four goals and two assists. Keyser, just like Danze, started all 18 games on the back line for the Ravens.

Trandahl was tied with O'Brien with six goals and four assists and started the final seven games of the regular season at forward. Gregory logged every minute in goal for Benedictine this season. She tallied 79 saves in just over 1,700 minutes in goal and finished the regular season with eight shutouts.

Benedictine is the No. 6 seed in next week's HAAC Tournament and will travel to Fayette on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against Central Methodist. The winner advances to Thursday seminfinals in Lamoni, Iowa, against Graceland University.
