Lady Raven Basketball Wins HAAC Opener

BC Earns Comeback Win over Baker, 73-62

On the night they added their 2007-08 HAAC Championship to the rafters of Ralph Nolan Gymnasium, the Lady Ravens basketball team used a late first-half surge to gain control of the HAAC opener against Baker en route to a 73-62 win.

Benedictine trailed from the start with Baker jumping out to as much as eight points three times during the first 14 minutes of the half. Over the last six minutes, the Lady Ravens outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-0 to take a 25-24 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Ravens remained in control building a double-figure lead by the 8:15 mark of the second half.

After building their largest lead of the game - 71-57 - Baker held the Lady Ravens to just two points over the final two minutes but were only able to close the gap to 11 points with 30 seconds left in the game.

Benedictine's bench outscored Bakers 30-22 in large part to the 15-point effort of guard Kaela Stratman (Soph., Omaha, Neb.) Stratman went 5 for 6 from the floor, all of which were 3-pointers. BC's leading scorer was forward Abby Winder (Sr., Troy). Winder finished the night with a game high 16 points and a game high 11 rebounds. It was the ninth career double-double for Winder.

Baker had three players in double figures, led by the 11 point efforts of Kaitlin Schneden and Aubree Gustin.

The Lady Ravens, now 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the HAAC hit the road for a 2 p.m. game Saturday in Canton, Mo., against Culver-Stockton College.
