Volleyball Splits Road Matches at Evangel

Ravens drop HAAC match to Crusaders, beat Hannibal-LaGrange

The Raven volleyball team traveled to Springfield, Mo., on Saturday for a pair of matches against HAAC member Evangel University and Hannibal-LaGrange.


Against Evangel, the Ravens fell for the first time in HAAC play 3-0 but then rallied to earn a 3-0 win over Hannibal-LaGrange.


In the Evangel match, the Ravens were held without a hitter in double digits. Outside hitter Carly Steinlage (Fr., Topeka) led the way with seven kills followed by middle hitter Katie O'Connor (Sr., Overland Park) with six.


Setters Emilee Clark (Fr., Olathe) and Susan Specht (Jr., Shawnee) shared duties against Evangel with Clark tallying 14 assists to Specht's 11.


Specht also led the defensive effort with 10 digs followed by Clark, outside hitter Cassie Rockers (Jr., Mound City) and defensive specialist Lauren Eggen (Fr., Jefferson City, Mo.)


In the win over Hannibal-LaGrange, while no hitter finished with a double-figure total, four did finished with seven. Middle hitter Dain Finney (Jr., St. Joseph, Mo.) led the way with 8 followed by O'Connor, outside hitter Corinne Knobbe (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) and outside hitter Karlie Dalton (Fr., Parker, Colo.) with 7.


Clark totaled 24 assists while Specht added 13, which led to 38 total kills for Benedictine.


Defensive specialist Lauren Eggen (Fr., Jefferson City, Mo.) led the defensive effort with 11 while Clark added 10. O'Connor totaled three block assists to round out the defensive effort.


After playing their first 20 matches of the 2011 season on the road, the Ravens finally get to play a home match in front of their home crowd on Saturday.

Benedictine hosts a 11 a.m. match as part of Family Weekend against Haskell in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
