Volleyball Beats Graceland 3-2

Benedictine jumps back into top four in the HAAC

LAMONI, Iowa – It took five games on Tuesday night but the Raven volleyball team moved back into the fourth spot in the HAAC standings with a 3-2 over Graceland University.

Benedictine earn the win taking the first two games 25-19 and 25-20. Graceland rallied to win games three and four 25-16 and 25-13 before Benedictine earned the win in game five, 15-12.

Two Ravens finished the match with double digit kills. Outside hitter Carly Steinlage (Fr., Topeka) led the way with 15 kills while outside hitter Karlie Dalton (Fr., Parker, Colo.) added 10.

Setters Emilee Clark (Fr., Olathe) and Susan Specht (Jr,. Shawnee) split time on the court with Clark tallying 25 assists while Specht finished with 19. Benedictine recorded a total of 53 team kills.

Three Ravens finished with double figures in digs, led by the 21-dig effort of Cassie Rockers (Jr., Mound City). Defensive specialists Lauren Eggen (Fr., Jefferson City, Mo.) and Hannah O'Brien (Soph., Denver) finished with 19 and 18 digs respectively.

Outside hitter Katie O'Connor (Sr., Overland Park) led the front-row defensive effort with six block assists while Dalton and middle hitter Ashley Gray (Fr., Atchison) finished with five and four each.

Benedictine remains on the road Thursday for a conference match in Canton, Mo., against Culver-Stockton College. The varsity match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Ravens have three HAAC matches remaining in the regular season with their final two – Oct. 27 vs. Peru State and Nov. 1 vs. MidAmerica Nazarene – at home in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
