Track & Field Program sends four to NAIA Outdoor Nationals

Annual event begins Thursday and runs through Saturday

Four members of the 2013 Raven track & field program punched a ticket to the annual NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday in Marion, Ind.


Sophomore Jacob Connealy and freshman Dylan Grove will represent the Raven men at the event while juniors Teresa Graybill and Roxanne Grizzle will represent the Raven women.


Connealy is coming off an outstanding run through the outdoor season in which he went back and forth with teammate Wil Wallace in the decathlon. Connealy enters the National Championships ranked 13th in the decathlon with a score of 6,012 – the current Benedictine school record in the event.


As the Ravens only multi-event qualifier, Connealy will get his championship appearance started first at 10 a.m. Thursday. The first five events of the decathlon are the 100 meter, the long jump, the shot put, the high jump and the 400 meter. Each event will begin approximately 30 mintues after the conclusion of the previous event.


The decathlon concludes at 9:30 a.m. Friday with the 110 meter hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin and the 1,500 meter run.


Grove will be throwing the javelin in his first championship appearance. His qualifing throw of 56.33 meters ranks him 18th in the event headed into nationals. He will compete at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday.


Graybill enters the championships with a qualifying time of 27:58.18 and is ranked 12th in the field of athletes in the 5,000 meter racewalk. She will compete at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Friday.


Grizzle will be throwing the javelin for the Raven women. She enters the championships with a qualifying throw of 42.58 meters and is ranked ninth entering the event. She will compete at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday.


The event is being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind., and will have four channels streaming live over the internet throughout the championships. You can view the stream at:
