Softball picks up non-con sweep over Southwestern

Ravens extend winning streak with 7-4 and 10-2 sweep

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Raven softball team continued its winning ways on Wednesday, picking up two non-con wins over Southwestern (Kan.) College on the road.


Benedictine (13-9) picked up a doubleheader swep taking game one 7-4 and extending their winning streak to six games with a 10-2 win in the finale.


In the opener, Mallory Guolding (Fr., Plainfield, Ill.) improved her season record to 7-4 throwing the first six innings. Goulding scattered four earned runs off five hits to pick up the win. Katie Rickleffs (Fr., Topeka) notched her third save of the season, throwing a scoreless seventh while allowing two hits.


At the plate, the Ravens banged out 10 hits, only two of which was for extra bases.


Centerfielder Briana Rombach (Jr., Washington, Mo.) went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Rickleffs added a 3 for 4 effort. Second baseman Sierra Esau (Fr., Reno, Nevada) went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.


In game two, Katelyn Nill (Jr., Lenexa) picked up her first win of the season, throwing all seven innings. Nill gave up one earned run while scattering five hits in the win. She also added two strikeouts.


At the plate, Benedictine scored five runs in the first and never looked back, wracking up 14 hits in the win.


Rickleffs led the way with a 4 for 4 effort with a double, home run and four RBIs. Rombach went 3 for 4 with two runs scored while leftfielder Allsion McCormick (Jr., Pittsburg) went 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Designated player Jenna Fitzpatrick (Jr., Murietta, Calif.) added a double to round out the offensive effort.


The Ravens are scheduled to open conferene play on Saturday at 1 p.m. as they host HAAC opponent MNU at the BC Softball Field. The forecast for the weekend in Atchison is not very softball friendly with the chance of snow hitting the area at some point during the day on Saturday.
