The varsity-only men’s and women’s Raven cross country teams traveled to St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 25, for the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Competing in the Maroon III division, the women placed 24th of 32 teams, while the men were 20th out of 30. The highly-competitive race included four women’s and five men’s teams ranked in the NCAA Division III polls.

The men were paced by Jordan Mahood, Mike Brubaker and Luke Gross finishing within 15 seconds of each other in 78th, 90th and 92nd place. Patrick Earhart in 147th and Max Dean in 155th completed the scorers, with pushers Nathan Bohlig and Andrew Gasper in 171st and 185th.

For the women, Liz Schmitz was 71st, followed by Amber Fitzpatrick, 126th, Karina Estee, 160th, Bridget Carosello, 163rd and Martha Evans, 164th. Christina Buechler placed 184th and Clare Merz 192nd for the 6-7 pushers.

“This was a good effort by everyon," said head coach Rex Lane. “Of the 12 who had competed here in the past, 11 ran their best time for this course, which is encouraging considering the course was pretty soggy and slow from heavy rains. We’re definitely getting ready for the serious races."

Next on the schedule will be the Emporia State Invitational Friday, with the women’s race at 5:00 and the men’s race at 5:30.
