Eleven teams named 2012-13 NAIA Scholar Athletes
Number up from four during the 2011-12 school year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released its annual list of Scholar Teams on Friday and Benedictine had 11 teams make the list.
"Our number of teams listed continues to grow with each school year," said Benedictine College Athletic Director Charlie Gartenmayer. "I am very proud of the leadership of our coaching staff that provides our student athletes with an opportunity to excel in the classroom as well as in their respective sports."
Last summer, Benedictine had four programs named NAIA Scholar Teams for their efforts in the classroom during the 2011-12 school year.
The cross country teams led the way among the Benedictine programs. The women's cross country team had the highest overall team GPA at 3.43 while the men's cross country team had the highest GPA among men's teams with a 3.41.
The remaining teams on the list were volleyball (3.42), women's outdoor track & field (3.23), women's indoor track (3.22), women's soccer (3.17), baseball (3.16), women's basketball (3.14), men's outdoor track & field (3.11), men's indoor track (3.11) and men's soccer (3.08.)
This past school year, 17 athletes representing nine program at Benedictine were named as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
