The Dean of Students directs and oversees programs and activities involving Residence Life, Student Development, Intramural Programs, Student Health Services, Counseling, Student Activities, and Career Development.
VICE PRESIDENT OF STUDENT LIFE
Henry has more than 20 years experience in higher education administration. In addition to her current position at BC, she has also served the college as its executive director for the Executive Master’s of Business Administration program, the director of the Career Development and Placement Office, Residence Hall Director, Summer Housing Director, and co-director of Student Activities. Henry has also served as the vice-president of Administrative Services and Director of Special Projects for Northeast Kansas Technical College.
She graduated from Benedictine in 1981 with a degree in Business Administration. She completed her Master of Arts in Education Administration at the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1997 and will complete her Doctor of Education through the University of Kansas in 2008. In addition to her administrative background, Henry has also served in the classroom at the elementary, high school, and college levels.
“My vision for student affairs at Benedictine College is to integrate the Benedictine values with educational opportunities so all students can develop their full potential as individuals and future leaders in the church, in society, and in the world,” she said. “Personally, I owe a lot of who I am today to BC.”
Henry has three children, one who is currently a student at Benedictine College and two who have already graduated from BC. Her husband, Jerry, also graduated from Benedictine College. The couple has two grandchildren.

Joe Wurtz comes to Benedictine from Christendom College in Virginia, where he has been Dean of Student Life for the past four years.
Prior to Christendom, Wurtz served as Benedictine’s assistant dean of students and student activities director. He was also a director for one of Benedictine’s residence halls. He has also served as a missionary and member of the board of directors for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Benedictine and his Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. He expects to complete his Doctor of Education from the George Washington University in May 2010.
“Joe Wurtz is a student-focused administrator. Anyone who has worked with him or even had the pleasure to talk with him knows he is sincere and compassionate and truly cares about students,” said Vice President of Student Life Linda Henry.
