MISSION STATEMENT
The Benedictine College Library supports the College’s mission to educate men and women within a community of faith and scholarship. Our primary task is to serve the educational and research needs of our main constituencies, the faculty, students and staff of Benedictine College and the monastic communities of Saint Benedict’s Abbey and Mount Saint Scholastica Monastery. Through resource sharing and cooperative agreements, the library’s collections are accessible to the greater Atchison community and the world at large. As heirs to 1500 years of Benedictine tradition, we are committed to preserving, expanding and making available our historical and contemporary collections in various formats.
ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Welcome to Benedictine College Library. The present building completed in 1968, houses the combined collections of Benedictine College and Saint Benedict’s Abbey, numbering approximately 250,000 books and bound periodicals. The library subscribes to a collection of 30,000 electronic books and provides access to over 40 periodical databases.
Our special collections include some 6,000 items especially rich in Benedictine history, editions of the Rule of Benedict; Emblem books; 19th century U.S. Federal documents covering the Exploration and Surveys period. The Library is a partial depository for U.S. Government Documents.
There are two classroom/computer labs on the first floor that contain 40 networked PCs. Wireless network access is available on all floors of the building.
At the present time the library is also home to the Student Success Center and the Art Department.
