Haverty Center Dance Team 382

Built in 1923, this was the original indoor athletic facility for the college. Today, it still houses a fitness center, swimming pool, two handball courts, a basketball court, and athletic department offices. The first floor provides a central hub on campus in the Raven Roost. The Raven Store, Deli, and the Monte Cassino Inn (restaurant/pub) provide food and shopping. The Roost has a large open dinning area furnished with tables, chairs and booths, plus a study area oak paneled bookcases, and a fireplace. Memorabilia reflecting the various eras in the college’s rich history are displayed throughout the facility.

The mural in the Raven Roost is titled “The Development of Atchison Around the Benedictine Community,” and was done by Anthony Benton Gude, grandson of Thomas Hart Benton.

Words taken from the “Rule of St. Benedict” adorn the tops of the archways in the Raven Roost as a reminder of what the true foundation of the college is. They include Family, Listen, Hospitality, Work & Prayer, Peace, and Community.

Larry Wilcox Stadium Cheer Squad | Spirit Squad 381

The crowning jewel of the Raven football program is Larry Wilcox Stadium and the playing surface at the stadium.

Upgraded to FieldTurf during the spring of 2008, Larry Wilcox Stadium has become known as one of the best home-field advantages in small-college football.

The chair-back seats came to Benedictine from Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, the former home of the Atlanta Braves.  The stadium not only offers Raven fans a great view of the game from every seat, it also delivers a breath-taking view of the Abbey, located on the southeast side of the field.

The stadium was built with fans in mind.  The seats face toward the east, which means that the fall sun will be either directly above the seats or behind the stadium during games.  The stadium also offers a large concourse, rest rooms, and a concession stand conveniently located at the top of the stadium so fans never miss a down of Raven football.

The crowning jewel of the Raven men’s and women’s basketball programs is the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium. Home to both basketball teams and the volleyball program, the Nolan Gymnasium has been the home of the Ravens since the dedication of the Student Union in the fall of 1996.

Ralph Nolan Gymnasium is named after former men’s basketball head coach and Benedictine College Hall of Famer Ralph Nolan who led the Ravens to NAIA National Championships in 1954 and 1967.

The Ralph Nolan Gymnasium floor was recently refinished and repainted in 2007 and features the “Stand Up Raven” logo prominently at half court. Fans can sit on each side of the court and the famous “PIT” student section is located on the south baseline.

The men’s and women’s basketball programs and the volleyball program have their locker facilities in the building as well. The men’s and women’s basketball locker rooms were renovated in 2009 and 2010 respectively and feature large professional style wood lockers for each player and large flat screen TV’s for game film study.
