Department of Music
Vocal Studies: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass

Dr. Timothy Tharaldson, Dr. Mackenzie Phillips, Ms. Alyssa Toepfer

The Vocal program at Benedictine College consists of a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music and Bachelors of Musical Education degree.  The B.A. degree in Voice prepares young artists for careers as professional singers.  Studies in technique, pedagogy, diction, opera workshop and repertoire, give students the skills and liberal arts education they need to be classical artists and teachers.  Many students receive this degree and work at a church, teach voice or pursue an advanced degree.  The B.M.E. degree prepares students to teach at a K-12 institution.

Voice students receive a weekly private lesson (one-half hour or one hour) and attend a weekly performance recital in which they have the opportunity to perform for the college community.

Voice students participate in ensembles such as the Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, Liturgical Choir, Women's Ensemble, and Men's Ensemble. They also have the opportunity to perform staged operatic literature trough the Opera Workshop.

Outstanding students are often awarded financial aid in the form of scholarships. These awards are based on musical proficiency, academic achievement and potential for success in the various degrees.
