S. Anne Shepard, OSB, Ed.D., '67

S. Anne Shepard, OSB, joined the Benedictine Sisters at Mount St. Scholastica in 1965. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College in 1970 with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in French. She received her Master’s in Education from Marygrove College in 1976 and a Doctorate in Education -- Curriculum and Instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1991.

Her career in education began by following in her mother's path and becoming a math teacher. Anne taught math and religion for 18 years at several schools, including St. Teresa's Academy, Bishop Miege High School, St. Bernadette's, The Academy of Mount St.  Scholastica and St. Joseph's School in Atchison. She served as Vice-Principal of the Mount Academy in 1975 and 1976 and then served as Principal until 1979.

Anne lived in Kansas City, Missouri, where she served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese. Before becoming superintendent in 1994, she was associate superintendent for four years.

In the October 4, 1996, edition of the Kansas City Business Journal, Anne is recognized for her upcoming inclusion in the 1996 edition of Who's Who in Education.  Selected by a panel of five judges who are prominent in various fields of education, the winners were judged on performance, position, community involvement, a commitment to the educational climate of the Kansas City area and a solid vision of the future.

After leaving the diocesan school office, Anne went to the Mount to serve as director of development for five years. In June 2005, Anne was elected for a six-year term as prioress of her community and re-elected in 2011.

She had served on the BC Board since 1996.
